How Long Will a Power Station Run a Space Heater?

By Marcus Reed. Updated Oct 13, 2026. Picks come from published specs and our sizing math. Some links pay us a commission, and each one says so.

About 1 hour per kWh. A 1,500 W space heater cycling on its thermostat 60 percent of the time averages 900 W, and a 1 kWh station has about 870 Wh usable. On the 750 W low setting you get about 2 hours.

Our picks at a glance

From published specs and our sizing rules. Not lab tested.

Here are the hours, using capacity x 0.85 / (watts x 0.6). BLUETTI Elite 100 V2, 1,024 Wh: 1 hour at 1,500 W, 1.9 hours at 750 W. BLUETTI Elite 200 V2, 2,074 Wh: 2 hours and 3.9 hours. Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus, 3,840 Wh: 3.6 hours and 7.3 hours. EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra, 6,144 Wh: 5.8 hours and 11.6 hours.

So yes, a power station can run a space heater, if its continuous output is over 1,500 W. It just cannot run one for long. An electric blanket gets about 17 hours from the same 1 kWh, which is why it is the better buy for an outage night.

Top picks, and why

Cheapest that runs one1

BLUETTI Elite 100 V2

  • 1.0 kWh
  • 1,800 W continuous

1,024 Wh and 1,800 W continuous with a 3,600 W surge, so a 1,500 W heater runs with 300 W to spare. About 1 hour of heater or about 17 hours of electric blanket. Around $499, the lowest price here that can run a heater at all.

  • 1,000 W solar input, tied for highest of the 1 kWh class
  • 1,800 W inverter runs a coffee maker or microwave
  • 10 ms UPS switchover

  • 9,000 W surge covers a 1/2 HP well pump start
  • 3,200 W solar input, more than the original F3800 (2,400 W)
  • 137 lb, plan to keep it in one place

Will it run your stuff?

Tick what you need to keep running. Every pick below re-sorts by how long it lasts on one charge.

Average draw about 104 W, peak about 1,251 W when the biggest motor starts.

Runtime = capacity x 0.85 inverter efficiency / average draw, with fridges and freezers cycling on their compressors. Amazon links are paid links. Amazon prices change, so we show a range.

Space heater runtime by power station size

Every row uses the same math. Usable watt-hours are capacity x 0.85 after inverter losses. A heater on its thermostat runs about 60 percent of the time, so 1,500 W averages 900 W and 750 W averages 450 W.

1 kWh, BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 (1,024 Wh, 1,800 W): about 1 hour at 1,500 W and 1.9 hours at 750 W. Flat out in a cold room with no cycling, 1,500 W lasts about 35 minutes.

2 kWh, BLUETTI Elite 200 V2 (2,074 Wh, 2,600 W): about 2 hours at 1,500 W and 3.9 hours at 750 W.

3.8 kWh, Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus (3,840 Wh, 6,000 W): about 3.6 hours at 1,500 W and 7.3 hours at 750 W.

6 kWh, EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra (6,144 Wh, 7,200 W): about 5.8 hours at 1,500 W and 11.6 hours at 750 W.

Even the DELTA Pro Ultra (over $2,000) does not run a 1,500 W heater through one night. Use the power station sizer to run the math with your heater and the rest of your loads.

Continuous watts must be over 1,500 W

A space heater has no motor start, but it pulls its full rating the whole time it heats. A station rated 1,500 W continuous is at its limit with nothing else plugged in, and many will trip or run hot. Buy 1,800 W or more.

That rules out every 288 Wh and 768 Wh unit and the 1,500 W Jackery Explorer 1000 v2. The 750 W low setting runs on any station with 1,000 W or more, but the hours stay short.

Plug the heater straight into the station, not through an extension cord or power strip. Most heater makers say the same.

What to run instead of a space heater

An electric blanket averages about 50 W, so it lasts 18 times longer than a 1,500 W heater cycling at 900 W. That is about 17 hours on 1 kWh, 35 hours on 2 kWh and 65 hours on 3.8 kWh. A heated mattress pad draws about the same and keeps the heat under you.

A gas furnace blower needs about 600 W running and averages about 300 W. A 2 kWh station runs it about 6 hours and heats the whole house, not one room.

An indoor-safe propane heater needs no power. The Mr. Heater Buddy puts out up to 9,000 BTU, about 1.75 times the heat of a 1,500 W space heater, from a 1 lb cylinder. Use it with a window cracked and a battery CO alarm in the room.

Our guide to the best heat source for a power outage covers all three, with the safety rules for propane.

Frequently asked questions

How long will a power station run a space heater?

About 1 hour per kWh for a 1,500 W heater cycling on its thermostat, and about 2 hours per kWh on the 750 W setting. The math is capacity x 0.85 / (watts x 0.6). A 2 kWh station gives about 2 hours at 1,500 W.

Can a power station run a space heater?

Yes, if its continuous output is over 1,500 W, so 1,800 W or more. It runs out fast, though. A 1 kWh unit lasts about 1 hour and a 6 kWh unit about 5.8 hours.

Will a 1,000 W power station run a space heater?

Only on a 750 W low setting. A 1,500 W heater overloads a 1,000 W inverter and it shuts off. Check the heater's label for its low setting before you rely on it.

How long will a 2,000 Wh power station run a 1,500 W heater?

About 2 hours with the thermostat cycling and about 1.1 hours flat out. 2,000 Wh x 0.85 = 1,700 Wh usable, divided by 900 W average or 1,500 W full.

Can solar keep a space heater running?

Not in winter for most setups. A 1,500 W heater cycling uses about 900 Wh every hour, and winter panels often make 2 to 3 sun hours a day. 1,000 W of panels at 3 sun hours gives about 3,000 Wh, about 3 hours of heater.

What uses less power than a space heater?

An electric blanket or heated mattress pad, about 50 W on average against 900 W. It runs about 17 hours on a 1 kWh power station. A gas furnace blower averages about 300 W and heats the whole house.

Is a generator better for a space heater?

Yes. A 2,500 W class inverter generator runs a 1,500 W heater for hours on a gallon or two of fuel. Run it at least 20 feet from the house with a battery CO alarm inside.

Why does my power station shut off when I plug in a space heater?

Almost always an overload. A 1,500 W heater on high pulls about 12.5 A at 120 V (1,500 / 120), so a station rated 1,500 W continuous or less trips its overload protection, sooner if anything else is plugged in. Switch the heater to its 750 W setting or use a station rated 1,800 W or more. Some stations also cut output when the battery is nearly empty or the inverter gets too hot.

Is it safe to run a space heater on a power station?

Yes, if the station's continuous rating is above the heater's wattage and the heater plugs straight into the station's AC outlet, not through an extension cord or power strip. Use a heater with tip-over and overheat shutoff, and keep it at least 3 feet from bedding, curtains and furniture, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises. Do not leave it running while you sleep.

How much does it cost to recharge a power station after running a space heater?

Under 20 cents for a 1 kWh station at the 17.3 cents per kWh US average. Refilling 1,024 Wh is about 1.02 kWh x $0.173 = about 18 cents, plus a little for charging losses. Running the heater straight from the wall costs about the same per hour, 0.9 kWh x $0.173 = about 16 cents at a 900 W average, so the battery adds hours of backup, not savings.
