Best Home Infrared Sauna for 1 or 2 People (Plug-In, No Wiring)

By Marcus Reed. Updated Oct 13, 2026. Picks come from published specs and our sizing math. Some links pay us a commission, and each one says so.

Three specs pick a home infrared sauna: how many people it seats, the footprint it needs, and what outlet it plugs into. The three main picks run on a standard 15 amp, 120 V household outlet, so there is no electrician visit. The premium Sun Home models further down need a dedicated circuit.

  • 1

    One person

Dynamic Saunas Elite 1-person infrared sauna

    1 person, up to 140 F

  • 2

    1 to 2 people

Dynamic Saunas Barcelona 1-2 person infrared sauna

Maxxus Seattle 2-person far infrared sauna

    2 person, up to 140 F

Infrared saunas heat your body with carbon panels instead of heating the air to traditional sauna temperatures. They run cooler, about 115 to 140 F, and warm up on household power.

For one person in a small space, the Dynamic Saunas Elite 1-Person is the smallest and lowest priced. For two, the Barcelona fits a corner and the Maxxus Seattle gives more room and a higher top temperature.

Premium saunas: permanent cabins and outdoor

Sun Home builds heavier, permanent-style cabins with longer warranties. They cost several times more than the plug-in picks above and need a dedicated circuit, so budget for an electrician.

The Solstice 2 stays indoors on a 20 amp, 120 V circuit. The Luminar 2 goes outside on a 240 V, 20 amp GFCI circuit and adds near and mid infrared, heating to 170 F.

Frequently asked questions

Can a home infrared sauna plug into a regular outlet?

Yes, the Dynamic and Maxxus saunas here plug into a standard 15 amp, 120 V household outlet with no new wiring. A 15 amp circuit carries at most 1,800 W, so do not share it with a space heater, hair dryer or other big load while the sauna runs. Check the plug type on any larger sauna: the Sun Home Solstice 2 needs its own 20 amp circuit, and the outdoor Luminar needs 240 V.

How much does it cost to run an infrared sauna?

A sauna on a 15 amp, 120 V plug cannot draw more than 1,800 W, so an hour of use costs at most about 31 cents at the 2025 U.S. average of 17.3 cents per kWh. A 30 minute session plus warm-up typically costs less than that. Use our cost-to-run calculator with your sauna's rated watts and your state's rate.

How hot does an infrared sauna get?

The saunas here top out at 135 to 140 F, with makers suggesting 115 to 135 F for use. Traditional Finnish-style saunas run much hotter, commonly 150 to 195 F. Infrared heats your body directly with panels, so it feels warm at lower air temperatures.

How much space does a 2-person infrared sauna need?

Plan on about a 4 x 3.5 ft floor area and 6 ft 3 in of height for a 2-person unit like the Maxxus Seattle, which is 48 x 42 x 75 in overall. The Dynamic Barcelona is smaller, with a 36 x 32 x 67 in interior. Leave clearance to open the door and to reach the outlet.

Can you put an infrared sauna in a basement or on carpet?

Dynamic Saunas says the Barcelona assembles on any indoor surface, including carpet. Both Dynamic models carry a 5-year limited warranty for indoor use only. A dry basement works if there is a 15 amp, 120 V outlet within reach of the cord.

What does low EMF mean on an infrared sauna?

It refers to the electromagnetic field measured near the heating panels, usually in milligauss (mG). Maxxus lists under 8 mG measured 6 to 8 inches from its panels on the Seattle. Compare EMF numbers only when the maker states the measuring distance.

How long does it take to assemble a home sauna?

Dynamic Saunas says the Barcelona assembles in about one hour, and the Elite 1-Person uses clasp-together panels. Plan on two people, since the wall panels are large. Maxxus ships curbside, so you also carry the boxes inside.

Is a home infrared sauna worth it?

It is worth it if you would otherwise pay for regular sauna sessions or a gym membership mainly for the sauna. A plug-in unit costs cents per session to run on household power. If you would use it less than once a week, a day pass is cheaper.

How long should an infrared sauna session last?

Start short, around 10 to 15 minutes, at the low end of the maker's suggested range, such as 115 F on the Dynamic saunas, and lengthen sessions as you get used to it. Drink water before and after. Check with a doctor first if you are pregnant or have heart or blood pressure conditions.

Hemlock or cedar for an infrared sauna?

Both are common sauna woods. The Dynamic Barcelona and Maxxus Seattle use Canadian hemlock, and the Dynamic Elite 1-Person uses Pacific clear cedar. Cedar has a natural scent, while hemlock is lighter in color and nearly scent-free.
