A heated bidet seat replaces your toilet seat and adds a warm seat, a warm water wash and, on most models, a warm air dryer. Three things decide the fit: your bowl shape (round or elongated), an outlet within reach of the toilet, and which comfort features you want.

Seats with a warm air dryer
A dryer is what lets you skip most of the toilet paper. Both of these seats pair it with a heated seat and adjustable warm water.
Pick the Bio Bidet if you want a wireless remote and continuous warm water; pick the Brondell if you prefer side-arm controls and want a night light.

Heated seat and warm wash, no dryer
If you only want a warm seat and a warm wash, a seat without a dryer has fewer parts. The TOTO WASHLET A2 heats the full seat surface and cleans its wand before and after each use.

Before you buy: bowl shape and outlet
Measure from the center of the two seat bolts to the front edge of the bowl. About 16.5 inches is a round bowl; about 18.5 inches is elongated. Every seat on this page is the elongated version.
Heated seats plug in. Brondell lists a 4 ft cord on the SE400, so plan for a grounded GFCI outlet within that distance of the toilet. Bathroom receptacles already need GFCI protection under the National Electrical Code.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an outlet to install a heated bidet seat?
Yes. Any bidet seat with a heated seat, warm water or a dryer plugs into a standard 120 V outlet. The Brondell Swash SE400 ships with a 4 ft cord, so the outlet should be within about 4 ft of the toilet. The National Electrical Code requires GFCI protection on bathroom receptacles, so use a GFCI outlet and not an extension cord.
How do I know if my toilet is round or elongated?
Measure from the center point between the two seat mounting bolts to the front outer edge of the bowl. About 16.5 inches means a round bowl and about 18.5 inches means elongated. Bidet seats are sold in both shapes, so order the one that matches.
Can I install a bidet seat myself?
Yes, most people install one without a plumber. You shut off the toilet supply, fit the included T-adapter between the supply line and the tank, swap the seat, and plug it in. Brondell rates the SE400 at under an hour and TOTO and Bio Bidet both describe their seats as DIY installs.
Is a heated bidet seat worth it over a non-electric bidet attachment?
It is worth it if you want warm water, a warm seat or a dryer, because a non-electric attachment uses only the cold supply line. A non-electric unit costs less and needs no outlet. If your bathroom has no outlet near the toilet, a non-electric attachment is the practical choice.
What is the difference between continuous warm water and a tank bidet?
A tank bidet heats a small reservoir, so the wash cools once that water is used. A continuous (instant) heater warms the water as it flows, so the temperature holds for the whole wash. The Bio Bidet Bliss BB1000 lists continuous warm water.
Does a bidet seat with a dryer replace toilet paper completely?
It can replace most of it, but many people still use a square or two to pat dry because air drying takes longer than wiping. The Brondell SE400 and Bio Bidet BB1000 both include a warm air dryer. The TOTO WASHLET A2 does not list one.
Which is better, a bidet seat with a remote or side-arm controls?
A wireless remote mounts on the wall and keeps the seat profile clean, and it is easier to reach for some users. Side-arm controls are attached to the seat, so they can never get lost. The Bio Bidet BB1000 uses a remote; the Brondell SE400 and TOTO A2 use side panels.
Will a bidet seat fit a one-piece or skirted toilet?
Usually, as long as the bowl shape matches and the seat bolts are in the standard position. Check that there is room for the T-adapter between the supply valve and the tank inlet, and that the seat's rear housing clears the tank. Makers publish seat dimensions, for example 20.9 x 18.5 x 6.1 inches for the Brondell SE400.
Are bidet seat nozzles hygienic?
Yes, on these models the nozzle retracts and is rinsed automatically. The Brondell SE400 runs a self-clean cycle before and after use, and the TOTO A2 cleans its wand inside and out before and after each use. Wipe the seat and nozzle housing during your normal toilet cleaning.
Do heated bidet seats use a lot of electricity?
They draw power mainly to keep the seat and water warm, so the eco or energy-saving mode matters most. The Brondell SE400 has an optional eco mode, and turning the seat heat off in summer also lowers use. Our cost-to-run calculator turns any wattage into a yearly cost at your state's electricity rate.
